1650 Scottish Plaid brooch at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London - From the curators' comments: "A plaid was originally a length of woollen material worn in the Highland region of Scotland. The men kilted it round their waist and then threw the end over the shoulder, in a similar way to an Indian sari. Women wore it round their shoulders as a blanket or shawl. The plaid brooch was worn by women to fasten the two sides of the shawl together at the front." by christa

Perhaps one of Australia’s least appreciated marsupials, the spotted quoll is sometimes known as the tiger quoll or spotted-tail quoll (juvenile pictured). This species is the largest living carnivorous marsupial on the Australian mainland, and is eclipsed by only the Tasmanian devil on the island of Tasmania. Quolls fill a similar niche to that of cats and foxes, and have suffered from increased pressure since the introduction of these species to Australia. Unlike foxes and cats, quolls do not easily adapt to Australia’s rapidly expanding urban environments. As a result of the challenges faced by these marsupials, this species is subject to a number of on going conservation efforts. by christa
