wind spirit A spirit wolf. Healer to man. She travels silently and restores spiritual and physical balance. In the background I painted a medicine shield….befitting a healer. The gold spirals are a symbol for the path of life. :: www.gretchendelrio.wordpress.com by roseann

One Of My Favorites! Luther Standing Bear was an Oglala Lakota Sioux Chief - "We did not think of the great open plains, the beautiful rolling hills, the winding streams with tangled growth, as ‘wild’. Only to the white man was nature a ‘wilderness’ and only to him was it ‘infested’ with ‘wild’ animals and ‘savage’ people. To us it was tame. Earth was bountiful and we were surrounded with the blessings of the Great Mystery." Silbury Hill 5.7.2009. by roseann

Black Elk (Oglala Sioux) 1863-1950. Black Elk experienced a vision at age nine that led to his becoming a medicine man renowned for his spiritual and healing powers. He participated in the Custer battle, the Ghost Dance religion and the Wounded Knee massacre. One of the most important books ever written about Native spirituality, "Black Elk Speaks: The Life Story of a Holy Man of the Oglala Sioux" has become the "bible" for young Indians, who look to it for spiritual guidance. by roseann

This map shows the Native American reservations today. As you can see they have lost pretty much all of their original land. This connects to Human Geography because it shows the effect European colonists have had on Native American lands. (4th) by roseann
