In order to establish control before beginning instruction, students need a way to stop what they are doing so they can listen out for instruction. I envision myself using different strategies, such as having students stop and put their hands on their head, clapping patterns with my hands, and counting down from five to establish control of the class before I begin instruction. This will manage the classroom by making instructions clear and saving time by not having to repeat directions.

I have cried every single day for so long, telling myself I have the strength. Most days, I've barely made it through. I've faked smiles, put on the pretend "it's all good" just to make others feel comfortable. Today, I feel better, but I know it's always there - lurking like the predator that it is; waiting for my next vulnerable moment to pounce and devour me...another attempt to take me out of the game for good.

During my nutcracker unit, my students loved creating their own nutcracker rhythms. Loved that there were two levels of difficulty so I could use for more than one grade. I had them record with the iPad video app and email me saying their rhythms. It allowed me to assess students on rhythm reading.

Monochromatic self portraits on notecards made on the first day of school. All 800 + students matter! I have a 5 day rotation that I color coded. The color they made was based on that code. Helped them remember their code and for me to keep them organized per rainbow (didn't have a yellow day, so skipped that).

I made these so long ago and have just never posted them, but with it being June, and a huge month when people are getting married and having anniversaries, I figures now would be a good time to get this out of my archives. I always make these for me and my hubby to have …

When your guests walk into the room, you want them to be dazzled by one killer display that takes their breath away. But be sure to stop there: If you have more than one big show going on, you run the risk of making the space visually overwhelming. Usually I go for shock and awe on my dining room table. I like to think of this long plank of wood as a stage just waiting for a story. This all-important display sets the scene for all the décor in my dining room, and often for my entire home, so I c

Inside the box I plan to put little round stickers with numbers on them so students always return their ear buds to their number spot in the container.

22 jobs, conscious discipline style: I love this type of organization and this way students can see who has what job so that they can take care of their job on their own without me having to remind them what they are supposed to be doing.

GENIUS: After my students write a piece I have them leave it on their desks when they go to lunch or special area classes. I place a Skittle on each correct punctuation mark (and I usually put one or two one if they indent a paragraph). Let me tell you, Skittles are the great motivator!

As a math interventionist in an urban Massachusetts district, I have worked with my fair share of disinterested students. I enjoy the challenge, and I make it my goal to find a way to connect with each child and help them develop their math skills – no matter their current level. I would like to share three types of activities that have worked for me and my students in middle school math! By Free to Discover.

Morning world ... Happy Tuesday to you all . Just back in from the packing room - was in there at 5.20 again. Having slept with Neddy Noo last night who along with Jack is full of cold and was running a temperature last night- he was asleep by 7pm and that's not Ned. Both tucked up in their beds and I'm waiting on them hand and foot as any mum would - hate them being poorly. I won't be back in the office today so if you ring I won't pick up - please email me. Have a splendid day Coll xxx...

Hometalk | Maximize a Small Space With Barn Doors - I would like to change out the bi-fold doors on my bedroom closet and put these type of doors in their place so I have more room for my dresser!

I open in Bridge. keep a subfolder and title it RAW. In Bridge, Rate keepers stars. I click on show filter, and then I have all 5 star rated photos show. New subfolder called Final Raw. Then first edit in ACR, then Photoshop. I save my edited photos in another subfolder titled PSD so I know that is where my master edits land. Once I am done with them, I batch rename all my PSD files in bridge to make sure that all their numbers are in order. This makes it easier for me once the orders come in.

This poster is based on research from Dr. Richard Cash. He developed four stages of self-regulation. I have adapted this to fit for students and their use of technology in the classroom. This is a simple poster that I put in my class and every few weeks I inform students of where they fit on the self-regulation rubric.

So there’s this long list of things students aren’t allowed to have in their dorm rooms. Find out what you can't have and some alternatives to replace them!

"Cell Phone Day Care" a place for students to put their phones so they don't have them at their seats - but doubles as a charging station to encourage them to put them there. Day 1 was successful - hopefully it will keep up and keep distractions out of the classroom!

Class lists and seating charts are very near my chair. Students have assigned places, even at the demonstration table. I write names on papers myself, so I can read them. In addition, absent students have a paper ready to go on file.

Each students have their own hanging file folder filled with papers for them to do when they're done. Each folder will be individualized on standards the students need extra help with.

How to Update a Hand Me Down Dresser. I love gift-wrap and I also love anything and everything having to do with typefaces. So it is no surprise to me that I have had my eye on this vintage typographer gift-wrap ever since Emily over at Jones Design Company posted about it as well as many other pretty papers she uses.

Clothespin math center. Here, they just put the correct number of clothespins on each number, but I would mark the clothespins with addition/subtraction problems for them to match.
