If you need to smash glass bottles to use the glass in ceramic projects, use the cut off leg from an old pair of blue jeans. Tie one end off with string, load a bottle or two in, hold the other end closed with a hand and smash the bottles with a hammer. Pour the crushed glass into a container and use a tablespoon or other scoop to add it to bowls.
