Poseidon is one of the twelve deities of the Greek pantheon. He is called the "God of the Sea", "Earth-Shaker" due to his role in causing earthquakes, and the "tamer of horses". The name of the sea-god Nethuns in Etruscan was adopted in Latin for Neptune in Roman mythology; both were sea gods analogous to Poseidon. Poseidon was venerated in pre-Olympian Bronze Age Greece as a chief deity, but he was integrated into the Olympian gods as the brother of Zeus and Hades. by batjas88

What we initially thought may be a scabbard belt is perhaps more likely a decorated medieval horse harness, undoubtedly the best preserved ever found in Ireland (and quite possibly Britain as well). All that normally survives of these decorated trappings are single harness pendants, but here we have a virtually complete example! Likely to be 14th century. by velma

Because of this woman… there was more acceptance for women to publish their findings on science, art, and literature during the medieval period. by amelia

Okay, so... I know I've done the whole... broiled grapefruit thing, which is pretty amazing. But, as I've found out, there are actually a lot of people out there that cannot enjoy grapefruit for one reason or another. Yes, even a few in my own family! Now, I looove peach season. I think that I may have mentioned that once or twice before. So naturally, I've been waiting rather eagerly for the prices of peaches to go down and huzzah! It finally happened this last weekend! I rather enthusiastically plucked a few gorgeous ones up and immediately began planning. Though... I pretty much knew exactly what I wanted to try. Stripped naked on the battlefield, and carried off on the back of a horse, Richard did not receive the noble burial of a king. For centuries his final resting place was a mystery. Then in 2012 these bones were dug up from under a car park in Leicester. Evidence suggests this skeleton belongs to Richard III. But even if his remains have been found, it’s likely that the speculation about this intriguing medieval king will continue for years to come. by henrietta
