Externally and internally lined with white taffeta  on which are painted allegories, mythological subjects, pastoral and popular festivities scenes. The figures of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette crowned by Cupids painted on the lid. The edges of the chest are filled with light garlands of artificial flowers made of fabric (via Réunion des musées nationaux) by jaclyn

The Hope Diamond began life as a large 112.8 carat diamond. It was originally purchased by King Louis the 14th. He had the court jewelers re-cut the stone to a more pleasing shape and it was reduced in size to just over 67 carats.  This stunning gem was also with Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette when they attempted to flee France during the revolution. It was taken from them and turned over to the government. This was another treasure stolen by rosedale
