Mount Katahdin, the highest mountain in Maine & the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail, which is about 2180 miles long winding through 14 states beginning from Springer Mountain in Georgia. Katahdin is located in Baxter State Park, Maine. The park is located in Piscataquis County in north-central Maine, & is a wilderness-managed area with over 200,000 acres of land donated to the state by then Governor Percival P. Baxter back in 1931 with the hopes of keeping it "forever wild".
