I’m a big fan of one-on-one conferencing with students as a way to connect with them and check for understanding. I use this “deli-style” format with students as a fun way to let them know it is their turn to conference with me. Each student is given a ticket (from 1 to how ever many students you have in class) at the beginning of class and meets me at the designated conference area in the room when they hear the “DING!” and their number appears on the projector screen. Kids love it! by shannon

I have far too many classes to do this with and my kids wouldnt appreciate it from a student teacher, at least not in class time. It turns out you don’t have to buy a dozen Scrabble games to do this project; You can buy a pack of 100 tiles for less than $5 on Amazon. This opens up so many possibilities! I love the way these Scrabble Tile coasters turned out, and you can customize them with different words. Maybe even use blank tiles (or the back) to make spaces in between words to write a message. by meraaitjie

One thing's for sure, if you can master the perfect roast potatoes, you're well on your way to the perfect Christmas dinner. This year, with a few extra tricks, I've managed to get them spot on. I love the strong lines, angles and symbol of freedom. If I use a bird image I identify with sparrows and robins, or geese, NOT swallows. I feel like the swallow image is a bit too popular for me to like it on me. But I have to say I can see the appeal of it because of the great shape and lines. by rebecca2

Susans Free Comparing Monsters - an Activity for I Need My Monster There are a variety of great language skill building activities that can be done with any book you read in your classroom. On the way to understanding complete story elements and construction students need to be able to describe characters and settings and to compare and contrast two or more of each. I usually begin a discussion of comparing and contrasting by having students use two shirts they can see in the classroom at the time two students; anything they can visually reference and find familiar. We then apply the same skills to comparing the characters in the book. A great book for comparing and contrasting is I Need My Monster by Amanda NollandHoward McWilliam I created this comparison chart for a student of mine. I hope you find it helpful too. "Grace Sticks" - each stick has a special deed to do; such as "Do a chore without being asked" "Make a picture for a loved one.".
