Treat Balls: Cover small balloons with one layer of orange tissue paper and then one layer of yellow. Cut out your own shapes, or download and print our silhouettes, then trace them onto black tissue paper; cut out each shape. Affix the silhouettes to spheres with diluted glue. When dry, enlarge knot holes (start cutting with utility knife, then finish with scissors). For party favors, fill balls with candy and tiny toys; paste a circle of orange tissue paper over the hole. by lessie

"Would You Rather..." Questions | Fun Get-To-Know-You idea for the first day of school! I did a force choice question 8 times - and then had the students predict how many different variations there could be. (2^8) We then discussed what this could represent... coin tosses, true/false tests. Great way to have fun and do math on the first day! by Spenner

Scripture Calendar - cute idea. If anything you'll memorize 12 verses each year. Could add a numbered blank list on each page to write things you were thankful for that day (fill up the whole month) I like this better than boring paper for a calendar in my dorm room. :) by patrica

Tanabata festival 七夕 - celebrates the meeting of the deities Orihime and Hikoboshi (represented by the stars Vega and Altair respectively) in Japan. According to legend, the Milky Way separates these lovers, and they are allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month of the lunisolar calendar. On 7th July, Japanese celebrate this day by writing wishes or poems on Tanzaku (small piece of paper) and hanging them on bamboo. by MyLittleCornerOfTheWorld

I like this technique, not just for Christmas: Cut up pieces of colored tissue paper. Glue them onto a sheet of white paper. 2. Cut this sheet of paper into triangles to make the trees. 3. Paint another sheet of paper with three stripes of watercolor. 4. After the watercolor has dried, glue the trees onto this paper. 5. With marker draw branches and grass. 6. Use a paper punch to cut out white snow. by Asmodel

Made fundraiser at church! Its a full can (un-opened - you need the weight to hold all the goodies!) Then you spray the tops with insulation foam you can get for around your pipes. Be careful it doubles in size! Wait a day and then you can use it like floral foam. I use kabob skewers and hot glue the candy and tissue paper and curling ribbon to them. Then stick 'em in! I then go back and fill in! Viola! by crystal mainka

This is a great first day/week activity for getting to know students, and they will love it because it involves candy! They randomly choose an M out of the bag, depending on the color they choose they will answer a question about themselves. If some students do not like chocolate you could use Skittles instead. 0642 by brandy
