A believable friendship, of course, depends most of all on casting. “Benedict was the only person we offered Sherlock to,” Gatiss says. “Casting John [Watson] was much harder. Then, when we got them in the same room together, Steve [Moffat] just said to me, ‘Look, there’s the series.’ And it was absolutely true. It’s an instant chemistry, and they have it in real life as well as on screen.” by simone

“I took one look at James on the stretcher and burst into tears. I can’t even imagine how it would feel to lose him. We have done everything together since birth and to see my brother laying down on a stretcher pretending to be dead just killed me inside. After James got up and I gave him a huge hug. David said you did great, it was very believable. Then I told him I just thought of it as me and James not Fred and George.” by eloise

"I remember when it was on I came back from filming to my mum and dad’s, and my parents were like, ‘Shut up, we’re trying to watch you on television!’ I said, ‘Sorry - is it any good?’ And I ended up watching it with them and I was utterly gripped. It was like watching this end to a friendship - devastating. I thought Martin’s acting when he was by Sherlock’s gravestone was so good. So restrained. It’s a beautiful moment." — Benedict on the end by claudia

I could not agree more. I had one person point out everything I did wrong. and it turns out there was a lot of misunderstandings, one that stands out was what I said about the husband, I NEVER said anything bad that he was not aware of. we make fun of each other, but NEVER disrespectful. It was a HUGE misunderstanding, to say the least, that ended the friendship. I have girlfriends who do the same. -l.s. by amelia

Reiner: Originally, Peter Falk [who was around 60] said, “I don’t know if I’m old enough to be a grandfather.” He said maybe we should put prosthetics on me, to make me older. So we did. We did a test on it. He looked at it and said, “Rob…I look like a burn victim!” I said, “Peter, maybe we do it without the prosthetics?” He says, “I think you’re on to something.” by proteamundi

"As you saw Benedict’s real life parents play Sherlock & Mycroft’s mother and father. At the BFI screening, as soon as they came on screen, the place erupted, went bat shit crazy and the hysteria lasted throughout their scene. When Benedict was asked about the reaction to his parents during the Q+A afterwards he said it almost made him cry and he couldn’t wait to go and tell them about it."- Love this. by lemai13

“You take this cold, remarkable, difficult, dangerous, borderline psychopath man, and you wonder what might have happened to him had he not met his best friend, a friend that no one would have put him with – this solid, dependable, brave, big-hearted war hero. I think people fall in love, not with Sherlock Holmes or with Dr. Watson, but with their friendship. I think it is the most famous friendship in fiction, without a doubt.” - Steven Moffat by joy
