Words for the mind
Only six small spoons were recovered from the Mary Rose, three pewter and three wooden, all between 14 and 15 cm long. This small number may be due to the size of the spoons, meaning that after the sinking many simply floated away or were made of a less hardy material. The pewter spoons would have belonged to officers, and their high tin/low lead content suggests they were made in England The wooden spoons were made of Maple, and were used by the ordinary crew.
