Five foundational reading skills — phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension — are known to be crucial in early learning. While daycares, preschools, and kindergarten classes focus a lot on helping children develop all their reading skills, a major part of this particular development depends on the reading culture of the family. Especially, the fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension aspects of reading skills require practice in a cozy and playful environment at home. by stacey

Every family gives gifts differently. Do you buy for everyone in the family or draw names. Do you play a game or give directly? Do you watch everyone open or go at it all at once? This is a point of contention in our family. The women like to watch everyone open one at a time. (Probably because we bought all the gifts and want to see their reaction!). However the men in the family are way too impatient and complain every year. Because they are losers. Oh did I say that? So the men open the gifts fast and the women all have 7 presents left then the boys all go outside while we sit and open presents. LOL. How about yall? by eugenia

In this activity, the teacher places some beans on the table, and asks the children to count them. Then, the children hide their eyes while the teacher places some of these counters under the bowl. When they open their eyes up, they can see how many of the beans are left visible outside of the bowl. This should tell them how many are under the bowl. Basically, this is a missing addend game. by Aeerdna
