A 98 year-old Polish woman named Irena Sendler recently died. During WWII, Irena worked in the Warsaw Ghetto as a plumbing/sewer specialist. Boruch Spiegel, in 1939 at the age of 19, who was one of the last surviving members of the Jewish resistance in the Warsaw Ghetto. Mr. Spiegel was on guard duty and gave the signal to attack the German army as they came liquidate the ghetto in April 1943. The ghetto residents antagonized the Nazis for 28 days. Mr. Spiegel escaped to safety and joined the Polish resistance. He died on May 7, 2013 at the age of 93. by ashlee

A Jewish girl from Piaski, deported to Belzec in March 1942. She was the fiancée of Josef Honig, a survivor from Piaski ghetto. Honig could escape from the transport to Belzec. In the same transport she was deported to the camp, where she perished. Mr. Honig died in June 2003. His widow arranged his archive and found this photo. Although Honig mentioned her name years ago, nobody knows her name today. She stands for all victims who perished in Belzec. by krystal

At her 1975 trial in Germany, a witness told how she “seized children by their hair and threw them on trucks heading to the gas chambers.” She directly murdered 80 people, abetted the murder of 102 children, and collaborated in the murder of 1,000 people. She was released in 1996 for health reasons. by diann

At the tail end of the Second World War, from June 1944 to April 1945, she was an acting handler of the viciously trained SS guard dogs. In 1959 Rinkel left for the United States where she was admitted as an immigrant.  In the 1960s she met a German Jew, Fred William Rinkel and they married in 1962. Her husband had fled Nazi Germany and escaped the Holocaust but died never knowing of his wife’s past. by sarahx
