Pregnancy luteoma. Pregnancy luteomas are characterized as nodular proliferations of luteinized cells causing ovarian enlargement, that develop during pregnancy and involute during puerperium. They are usually discovered incidentally, often during Cesarean section. They are usually multinodular and in one third of the cases are bilateral. 80% of cases are in multiparous women, and 80% of cases occur in black women. Electron microscopy reveals smooth ER, dispersed Golgi, and tubular cristae in mitochondria (associated with steroid hormone producing cells)
